Do not use the area separation wall system where exposure to constant dampness and or water may occur. If the upper edge of a low slope shed roof intersects a vertical wall the most logical approach in my opinion is to detail the roof as an unvented roof. It must either be continuous from the foundation to the underside of the protected roof sheathing or continue through the roof to form a parapet. It also reduces the time labor and material costs usually associated with adding a double layer of gypsum over the wall studs.

With double wall construction the separation begins at the floor joists and runs all the way to a roof parapet.
