Snap a chalk line as a guide for the first layer roofing.
The piece should overlap the lower course by at least 4 inches.
Prepare a valley between joined roofs by cutting a strip that is 18 inches wide and covers the entire length of the valley.
This reduces the chances of wrinkles after the roofing is installed.
Do not use the eaves as a guide instead because they can be uneven.
Nail it in place with roofing nails that penetrate at least 3 4 inch into.
Cut a hole in a piece of roofing about 2 feet wide and slip it over the pipe.

Attach the strip to the roof every 3 inches with nails pulling it tight as you go.
Measure 35 inches up from the eaves at several intervals along the roof and mark them.
Overlap the next strip of roofing material with the first by at least 4 inches.
